About us

You may ask yourself…

Why are you so passionate about science education?

Everyone in our team comes from a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) background so we all know how important STEM education is to a person.

Each one of us wants a better world and believes the best way to achieve that is to empower the next generation to achieve this.

STEM@Home was also designed by a science teacher, tested with science teachers and made for science teachers.

What support have you got as a business?

So far, we have achieved the following;

  • Part of UCL’s EDUCATE Edtech Accelerator

  • Runner-up in the Mayor of London’s Entrepreneur Competition

  • Semi-finalist in UCL’s global Edtech competition

  • Supported directly by TPXimpact

  • Support from UKRI: Innovate

Meet our team

Francis Jones
Co-Founder & CEO

“I’m passionate about helping children achieve their potential and live the best life possible. Science education is the key to unlocking a brighter and more sustainable future.”

An experienced science teacher and middle-leader with experience working in Inner-City state-run schools. Through coaching and mentoring, he has gotten students into medical degrees and Russell Group Universities due to his deep understanding of the universities’ admission process. He believes that developing a child’s critical thinking skills as well as their cultural and social capital is vital to helping a person achieve success. You can read more about Francis here.

Francis holds an Undergraduate degree in Forensics Science, a PGCE (with QTS) in secondary education (Chemistry) and a Masters degree in STEM Education from Kings’ College London.

Fleur Hicks
Co-Founder & CFO

“I believe that more children need to have full access to a high quality science education so the world can be a better place”

Matthew McGann
Graphic Designer

“Learning science shouldn’t be made to read out of a text-book. I think STEM@Home brings change to this issue"

Matthew is a graphic designer with social enterprise at heart. A strong belief in user-centred design and ease-of-use for end users ensures that Matthew helps to make STEM@Home as accessible as possible. Outside of STEM@Home, he works on helping young people access further opportunities through the power of music creation.

After being awarded “CEO of the Year” in 2021 by CEO Monthly, Fleur exited her own tech and management consultancy firm in a multi-million pound exit in 2023. Fleur has joined STEM@Home due to a united belief that science education improves lives and society and that a high-quality formal science education should be accessible to everyone.

Hassan Abdulaziz
Software Engineer

“We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves."”

A highly experienced full-stack software engineer with a passion for driving innovation and creating meaningful impact. Hassan has developed his skills with both front-end and back-end programming to craft our ground-breaking AI-marking software.

STEM@Home has been developed by science teachers, for science teachers.

Not all learners thrive in the classroom or respond to traditional revision methods and, while some science students absorb theory easily, others rely on practical learning to cement their theoretical knowledge.

Our business values

Quality Education

Once our students have finished using their boxes, we encourage them to send the box and most of its contents back to us via a free post address. We then upcycle these boxes and donate them to grassroots education charities to distribute as they see fit. An added benefit is that it keeps our boxes kind to the planet by preventing them from going to landfills.

Responsible consumption

We’re working hard to secure contracts with schools, academy trusts and local education authorities (LEAs) so that they can give the boxes to those who would benefit from them the most — such as special educational needs and disability (SEND) students and those who can’t attend school regularly.
